I've been feeding my Stanley off of earthworms from my garden, but I think I'm diminishing my supply.. I was wondering if I could go to a bait shop or hardware /garden store and buy some worms to feed him. Is that safe?

A garden store would be okay, but I personally wouldn't recommend a bait shop.

I'm having the same problem. I bought red wigglers from walmart.

It's easy enough to set up a worm farm - I got my worms from and a specialist who supplies them in different grades for bait, live food, composting and organic farming.

Big bucket, starter medium (special compost) and 500 worms came to about £50, and I now have a self sustaining colony - all you need is a shady spot in the garden and some vegetable scraps.

Bait shop worms are ofen wild-caught, and may carry parasites or be contaminated with pesticides, herbicides or other checmicals. But if you wash the worms, make up a farm for them and quarantine them for a few weeks you will soon have a self sustaining supply.

I ordered my worms from an online company, they stock bait worms and feeder worms, i always buy the live food ones but im a bit skeptical that they actually have different tanks for the different 'grades'
Im just lucky as it is purely a little company raising worms in their own vats with no plants ect so pesticides are not needed.
Have a look online see what you can find :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
