Its odd in these pictures the color looks more wild then melanoid, however i cant see any gold rings in his eyes. Maybe different pictures may help but from these pictures i say melanoid

I have noticed he has blueish/purple coloring on his lower sides. It doesn't pick up on my camera, but I'll try to get some pictures.

Its definately a melanoid. You would see a gold ring in his eyes if he were wild ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374953036.659237.jpg this is my beautiful lady, texas :)

Thank you so much for the identification! I'm so happy I got a Melanoid! :D

I am so happy i ended up with a melanoid, two albinos(one i think make be axanthic but nobody knows them well enough to give me a positive) a wild type and a white melanoid :p ImageUploadedByTapatalk1374958912.524913.jpg

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
