Came across these today in the back of a cupboard! My girlfriend got them for me years ago when i used to breed axolotls. There was a wild type model also but he's still missing in action at the moment! All i know about them is they came in kit form in small plastic eggs like a kinder surprise and the instructions were in Japanese i think. Oh and they're very tolerant of poor water quality:D

So cool! How lucky are you?

Also, is it wrong that my reaction to your post was 'Axolotl Toys?! Where? Where?' as if my axxies would whip out little lotl plastic action figures and underwater plushes?

Well, mine used to like pushing marbles round their tank but i think they were hunting under them rather than playing but who knows!!

I see them on eBay often. They're quite pricy! :(

They might have come from ebay but maybe 7 or 8 years ago. maybe they're not made anymore? they weren't pricey when we got them, we didn't have much spare cash in those days!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
