Hi, I'm new (obviously) and I don't have any salamanders or amphibians at the moment but they were a big part of my childhood. I grew up in rural Michigan and there were always plenty of blue spotted and tiger salamanders to be found around the property. Right now I'm thinking about getting some Axolotls in the future so I thought I'd check out the forum to make sure I'm prepared.

Cheers,
Ana

Hello and welcome!

You have certainly come to the right place for info.

Don't forget to post pictures!

Not quite there yet  but I certainly will once I find a place to buy an axie...I was hoping they'd show up at repticon last year but no dice.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
