Hi all,

Firstly thanks to everyone who contributes to this excellent forum. I've been reading it for some time and find it superb.

I started out in Newt-keeping a couple of months ago with 4 juvenile T. Verrucosus which I got from Julia. They seem to be doing well although only one of them is fully aquatic. I've been increasing cork bark area and plants for the other three. They're eating well and getting very tame.

I've now managed to persuade my wife to let me have another tank. I've put this one in the garage and have gone for a Walstad type planted tank. Now I just need to find something to put in
It and am thinking Triturus, always been fascinated by Crested newts..

Cheers, Ian

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you have been infected with a case of multiple tank syndrome ;)

I had a feeling you may become a little addicted :D I think a nice Walstad style tank with Triturus marmoratus may be good :D

Must....stop....buying...newts.. I'm thinking more Cristatus, Dobrogicus, Macedonicus, three words I hadn't even heard of 2 months ago!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
