I am so glad that I found this site - I did a whole bunch of axie research before I got my wildtype and am thankful that I now have a whole community of people who will be able to help me, should I need it! I have never kept amphibians before but fell in love with axolotls and when I found somebody who had an overabundance of juvies for sale, I knew it was time!

I want to thank everybody in advance for all of their wonderful advice (even if I don't ask for it specifically - I know I will learn a lot from just reading the forums). So excited to be a part of this wonderful axolotl-loving community!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
