Where can I get live blackworms in the UK? The numpty at the garden centre reckons you can't get them in the UK..... I'd like you to help me prove him wrong!

I bought some a few years ago, and they where quite expensive. I have not seen them sold for a long time now. I'm afraid the numpty was right :)

I've looked for them too with no luck. I think the next best thing is freeze dried black worms available on the internet. Can't imagine they would be as juicy and nutritious as live ones!

Nooooooooo! There must be someone who does live ones!
Anyone else have any ideas? Is it legal to ship them in from europe or america?

I've also been thinking about trying to culture these although it seems a number of people on here have tried and then decided they're not worth the trouble..?

Seem to sell them under the Living Organisms-Pond Life section

Oooh, thank Ian! I have a look at get some - see if I can get a culture going.

Sciento sell them too:
Sciento: Item Information - Lumbriculus variegatus culture c.50

a bit cheaper than Blades, but still very expensive...

I have a culture from Sciento, and another started with some from a local pond. They grow enough for the occasional treat, but you'd need a huge culture to get enough to use as a staple food.

If anyone in the UK wants to start a culture, I could send out small amounts at postage cost- PM me if interested.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
