...and he's already happy to take food from my hands! Plus if I put my hand in with no food he immediately comes to investigate, realises there's no food and starts headbutting me like he's saying "muuuummm, can you get me another pellet pleaaasseee?"

Only does it to me though, not my husband. :D Proudest axie mum ever!

Oh yeah, nibbling fingers (or tattoos), sitting in your hand, or just coming to the front of the tank in the morning - the recognition makes you melt!

Toaster now recognises that if the tank light comes on and he can see me then he's about to be fed and waits just below the surface for me. If the light comes on and it's anyone else he hides in his plant. I love him so much!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
