Thanks bev

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I don't want to alarm you but I am concerned at you keeping a newt in a tropical tank with fish. Most newt species require cool to cold water (below 20 C) and quickly become stressed or unwell in warmer temperatures.

I urge you to read the some of the threads relating to newts in this forum and there are some links in my signature that you can click on for further information.

If you can post a picture of your newt and your current set up I am sure some of our enthusiastic newt keepers can help you with species identification and give you a few hints and tips on care.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
