I have noticed this the past few years with three different species of my Triturus. They will lay a massive amount of eggs (I'm not sure who exactly is responsible, I keep them in colonies, but it's clearly a group effort). I mean LOTS. Enough for more than I could possibly want and I've been selling them as well. They'll lay for a couple months. Then after they stop, over the next few months, many of the adults will die. I have enough to replace them (except my marms, it wiped them out and my juvies all died, but that's another story). Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to stop them? If I separate the males from the females, will they stop laying, or will the females continue to lay eggs that aren't fertile? Is it normal to lose the adults like that, or what?
thanks.

First time i hear about it concerning Triturus. Pretty common in Ommatotriton, though.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
