Hi , ive got 2 x 9 month old Axis , ive had them since march , they share a lovely 180 ltr tank to live in with good filtration etc etc and live on mostly earthworms :)
my biggest baby " george" has developed a lump , i know the females have them but this seems very big, its soft so i know its not a pebble or anything , is this normal or is she just ready to breed ??

Yup, it's a boy! The bump is his boy-bits, so don't go prodding too hard....

mine also has one that looks much like that?! while my other two show no signs of a bump really. does that mean mine is also a boy? i watched it poo the other day and it was split all down the middle tho... that would be weird if a males bum was between his balls?

My Einstein developed bumps like that and Blip didn't. I found eggs the day before yesterday. Guess I have one of each!

It isn't really BALLS it's a cloaca which is a sort of mix between genetalia and anus. It's just easier to call them balls

I call Alabaster's his 'frijoles', because they aren't big enough to be called 'cojones' yet. LOL

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
