Hi all! Josh here, I was recently referred here by a groovy chick after doing a little herping. I always loved these slimy little critters but having grown up in the desert I only ever met a few close up.
I found a (large? He was around 12") guy the other night while working. Actually I think he found me... he must have been lost and wanting directions cuz he walked right up to me in a high truck traffic area at a crude oil transfer location:eek: I was greatly concerned for his safety. I took him a ways away to a nice open field with a wetland nearby. Awesome experience though, hopefully he steers clear of places like that from now on.
Anyway I will see about getting the pic posted. Definitely glad I was pointed to this community. Hobby or lifestyle... I guess time will tell.

Welcome to the forum, Josh!

Say, I know a pretty groovy chick in North Dakota... Have you heard about our moderator inspection bribery...uh... I mean, incentive program yet?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
