I put some white clouds in his tank and he quickly became sick. It looks like his face is rotting off. I went to the local pet store but they couldn't say what it isand directed me here . They did a water test and this is the results :
Ph 7.4-7. 6
Ammonia .25 ppm
Nitrite .25ppm
Nitrate .25ppm

Your tank doesnt appear cycled yet, do a 50% water change to drop the ammonia levels. Some pics would be usefull

As Ian has said, your tank isn't cycled yet. I also wonder, did you quarantine the white clouds?? Pics would be very useful - I would like to what what exact you mean by its face rotting off??? Also, what other symptoms does your lotl have?

I'm having a hard time running this site from my phone. I can't get it to upload pictures, hence my terrible post. I quarantined the fish beforeI put them in there

I posted some pi ctures . I haven't noticed any other strange behavior other than he seems stressed.

That doesn't look very good. I suggest you put him in the fridge to slow down the growth and keep him calm - it's hard to tell with that piture whether it's fungus or something else - it almost looks like a chemical burn.

Can you get a proper picture with a camera rather than a phone?

It looks more like a chemical burn than a fungus, honestly. And with the fact that the tank isn't cycled, it's a very strong possibility. Like auntiejude said, put him in the fridge with clean dechlorinated water changed daily for now.

I don't have a camera. If it's a chemical burn is there anything I can do for him? I feel really bad. I really love him. I've had him for years and he's never been sick before so I've never had any experience with this.

Without a clearer picture it's hard to tell exactly what the problem is, and treatments for different problems can actually make other conditions worse.

We really need a clearer picture - do you have a friend or colleague who could lend you one?

The other option is to take him to a vet who will have an even better idea of the problem then anyone here.

If you have kept your axolotl for years with no problems have you any idea why this problem has occurred now ? If your cycle has blown what have you done to cause this ? Did you have a major tank clean ? Sorry I cant see your pics at all, if you are having problems loading them on the thread put them in an album and link it to this thread.

I put them in an albumon this site . The only difference was I added white clouds. I don't know what I did.

How long did you quarantine the minnows for? Conventional wisdom says a minimum of 30 days unless you have bred them yourself.

If they are the only thing that has changed they may have brought in something nasty or upset your cycle.

Any luck on the pictures yet?

That looks like a very bad fungal/bacterial infection or posssibly an infected heater burn. Do you use a heater ? Probably not but have to ask. I do not think this is related to your ammonia in the tank, the damage would probably not be so localised, same goes for a chemical burn. If you can get the axolotl to a specialist vet I would do so at once. If not use almond leaves , tea baths etc as per usual fungal treatment. How fast is it spreading ?

I didn't quarantine them for 30 days. I was told that 3 days is what you'resu pposed to do. I was told that they prefer cold water so no heater. I posted the picturesin an alb um on my profile on this website. It has spread a little above his eyes but it stopped spreading when I put him in the fridge. I saw the post on here about putting him in the fridge. If it's fungal or bacterial is there anything I can do for him? I can't find a vet in my area that will see him. A few didn't know what an axolotl was. The only difference I've noticed now is that his frills (im not sure what to call them) on one side are curled in.

As someone mentioned above, add an almond leaf and some cold tea to his water, it will sooth him.

How should I put the tea in his water? Does it matter what kind of tea ? Do I just puta tea bag in hhis water?

Put a teabag in a mug (your ordinary brand is fine as long as it's not herbal, fruit tea, red bush etc) add boiling water and leave to cool. Once it is cold add it to the tank, or add just some if your axie is in a tub in the fridge.

I put some cool tea in with him. He seems to be barely hanging on. It kinda looks white and fuzzy. I was wondering if that meant fungus? I'm desperate and haven't been able togfind a vet to see him.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
