My red eyed tree frog has a large black and white spot on the back of its head that is growing, any ideas on what it is and how to treat it? Would post pic but don't know if I can... Thanks in advance

Photos would help, but definitely try to find a local amphibian-savvy veterinarian (check out Arav for listings).

The first thing that comes to mind is some kind of wound (heat? Infectious? Chemical?) that looked whitish from ulceration but is turning dark due to necrosis (tissue death). That definitely needs to see a vet.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
