Hi,
I am interested in getting my very first Axolotl and can't seem to find any near me. I live in the western suburbs of Melbourne and my LPS don't know when they can get any due to the breeders having none. :( Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do? Waiting is an option however I don't know if my LPS will have Axolotls which are well looked after. I saw the tank they use for Axies and it had contained gravel. As a first time Axolotl I don't want to buy one and have it die due to gravel.

Thanks for reading,
Dylan. :)

Thanks for that. :) I'll be sure to go checkout Coburg aquarium tomorrow and I'll keep an eye on that section as well. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
