Are you sure they are axolotls? They look a bit odd, almost andersoni to me, but I'm not an expert. Maybe someone else can shed some light.

How big are they and how old? If they are under 8" (and they are axolotls) and under a year you can't really guarantee their gender.

I bought them from a breeder here on caudata.org, they were labeled as Axolotls so I'm hoping they are haha. I guess yeah they are too young to sex. They are around 7 months. Simon (My biggest) is roughly 6 inches. I don't have a ruler to check though. :(

Now I'm worried that I will need to start saving for a Tiger Salamander setup. xD

Pretty positive that's an axolotl, very wide tail fin but his fingers look like axy.
Can't help you on the sexing as he is too young but I do know that when their gills curl forward like that it isn't very good. Yours don't look too bad & otherwise he looks healthy to me but when one of mine was sick that was what I was told.
Good luck sexing in the future :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
