I have put my 3 axolotls together and the filter I am using just isn't cutting it. I have been looking for a replacement. They are currently in a med rubbermaid tote (thinking 66 qt, but not positive without checking). I am going to move them into a 20 long soon, then into a 75 once they are a little bigger, as they are only 3-4" now. What is the opinions of this filter:

It will be fine for your 20gal, but would need upgrading for a larger tank.

But I have to ask why move to a medium tank then a large one? I'd go straight for the large one and save some time/money/effort.

I am holding off as I want to be able to find them. They are so small and I really want to see them once in a while.

You could put a divider in the big tank so you can find them, I agree that it is sort of pointless to get the middle sized one
:)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
