Prawns are okay to feed axolotls with as snacks, but they're not good to use on a regular basis. They become rather expensive to keep in stock for your axolotl, too. And being that prawns are both freshwater and saltwater, you would have to make sure the ones you buy come from freshwater. If you're looking for a food that you can feed them regularly alongside the worms, you can try shrimp, salmon, or axolotl pellets. Live things such as cherry, glass, or brine shrimp, or guppies are okay snacks too, but again, they shouldn't be a regular feeding item.

If you really have nothing else raw prawns are OK, not cooked. But live ones are better - you can get river shrimp in some places (if your axies is big enough to take them).

Stick to worms 6 days a week, one day for something interesting.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
