I think the general rule on here would be 1ft or 10 gallon per axolotl and extra space for decorations too. However, the bigger the better in my opinion because they soon outgrow a small tank.
In terms of litres it would be 30-40L per axie. In terms of tank size you should buy long rather than deep, but it need to be as deep as you axie is long.
How many axies do you have? For 2 axies I would get a 80L tank (or bigger) at least 2ft wide and 12" deep.
If it was a basic tank, with nothing in it, then 1 foot by 1 foot would do, but axies need hides and plants ect so really you need a 3 foot tank for two axies and a 4 foot for three axies ect
A standard 4 foot tank (that would house three axies) should be about; 48 x 12 x 15 inches
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
