My new girl got this bump about a week ago, at first I thought it was just a little pinkness from maybe bumping into something but now it looks swollen, She still eats well and poo's and is active.

Usually, lumps and bumps on an axolotl are benign and, while they should be noted, they don't cause any harm. I don't know if it's different depending on where the bumps are, though.

My adult axolotl about a year ago developed a similar looking bump on its tail. It never got worse and has never seemed to effected him.

I got this picture today, Its bigger than I thought.

It could just be a fluid build-up. Sometimes they go away after a while, sometimes they stay there. But more often than not they're harmless and don't bother the axolotl any. Keep an eye on it though, it may be something else.

That still looks like what my axolotl has on his tail. His got about that big.

ha hes got one big nose.. hehe i too have seen these weird bumps.. one of my buddies lotl looks like his whole tail has a bunch of very tiny ones on it.. super healthy lotl other than that

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
