Hi everyone,
I recently joined and love the site. I've been reading past posts about caring for an axolotl and rearing them from eggs. I've learned a bunch just looking through threads and I'm sure I'll have my own questions to ask as well. I set up a future 55 gallon axolotl tank which is planted with Anubias and ferns.

Welcome to the forum, feel free to ask anything - most of us are ready and willing to help where we can after all we all love Axies here :D

Thanks for the welcome. I'm going to go look for the section to upload a picture of my 55 gallon future tank to see if I should make any changes or if it's fine.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
