I have a (almost) full grown leucistic axie. I just did a tank change a couple of weeks ago, but I just noticed these small (darker) red dots on his face, neck and back. I wasn't too worried, and I just mistook them for some freckles or sand that had settled on him. But I realized that they are slightly raised. I can't tell for sure, but I read that it could be a fungal infection on his skin. He's still eating normally and I haven't noticed any odd behavior. Does anyone know what it is or if I should start fridging/salt bathing him?

Thanks!

Can you get a picture of it? It's hard to tell what it might be with descriptions alone.

I just fed him so he looks sort of red and fat, and his gills are always slightly curled forward. A goldfish ate them off and they grew slightly curled (I've tried everything to get them back to normal, but to no avail). Anyhow, the dots are pretty tiny, which is why I mistook them for freckles or something.

Those look normal to me. My albino has little dots like that on his chin and he's got a clean bill of health.

Awesome. I just never noticed them before, I suppose. He started getting the freckles shortly after I got him, I guess I just never noticed the reddish ones.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
