Does any one have any before and after pictures of their axolotls regenerating new limbs (or any body parts) that I could use for an animal biology class assignment? The assignment is on "Regeneration Thru the Phyla: Who What When Where Why and How" My professor has asked that I concentrate on axies for chordata after meeting my juvies. :D

Thanks

Hello

My friend has photos of her axolotl that had a limb munched on and the process of it amputating itself and then regrowing. I cant remember what her name on here is (or if she even comes on here much/still) but she has a blog that has the photos and you could contact her through that to ask to use the photos and see if she has anymore :)

"sillyaxolotls.tumblr.com" is the blog :)

RafaelS has an axolotl called Suppy that had no gills and was skinny when he rescued him - a few weeks later he had a full set of beautiful gills, which shows how their gills can regenerate and grow.

You could ask him for photos of the lovely Suppy :) They tend to be very clear and well posed as well.

You might want to try the search function on this site as well as Google.

Not to do your research for you, but regeneration is an interest of mine.

This article has some nice pictures: Regeneration - Developmental Biology - NCBI Bookshelf

and this time lapse video from Purdue Univ. Vet school is nice although not of an axolotl: Untitled Document

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

Jan, thanks for the link. I have all my research done, just looking for pics now to add to the prezi presentation. I've done a google search for pics and found quite a few, but many are not quite what my group is looking for.

I also don't just want to "steal" pictures, I'd rather ask for permission since one of the requirements for this assignment is that it be posted on the web for the whole world to see.

We got him in January and his gills had already regenerated the frills by February with a little TLC. By March they were quite impressive. :D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
