So we finally bought some worms for Archimedes and Jarvis, but we were just wondering how many worms is best to feed then a day? I know the general rule is they'll eat until they're not hungry, but Archimedes is noticeably bigger than Jarvis and his body isn't far off the size of his head.

I think most people feed 1 or 2 large worms every other day for an adult axie, but its just trial and error as to what works for your axie.
If his tummy is as wide as his head then its just maintaining it, if the tummy is larger then hold off on the food.

I feed two medium worms every other day for my 4 to keep their tummy wide enough, but i have a 5th axie who is a fussy eater who will only take 1 small worm and i have to fatten him up with pellets after his worm.

Okay thanks! We've been feeding them every day on bloodworms, but think we're going to change to every other day now - we fed them on heart for a little while when we first got them and they would only eat every other day.

Have you just bought them earthworms?
How old are your axies? If they are over 5" and they should be on earthworms :D

Yeah they got delivered yesterday. They've been eating bloodworms for the past few weeks and we think they're about 3/4 months old

Did you order small earthworms or are you braving the scissors :p

Ewww i couldnt do that haha, but try scissors, its a lot cleaner and easier :D

Yeah, we did after seeing your comment! Thanks! Archie has decided he doesn't really like the earth worms so we've gone back to feeding him bloodworms and keeping Jarvis on earthworms!

You can try blanching a cut up earthworm to prevent that yuckky excretion axolotls don't like as well as limits the worms struggle making it easier for your axolotl. It worked for my pellet-loving axolotl :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
