I was out of town with my family this weekend for Thanksgiving and randomly found out a store had axolotls. I decided I would go and buy a pair. Well one of the ones I picked up laid eggs, not many 20-30, she may have a few more still to lay. I took her out of her tub from yesterday and placed her in a fresh one (my tank is not quite finished cycling) but I left the eggs. Not sure what to do next so I wanted to ask here. I did a partial water change in the bin that she laid in but for now I have no clue what else to do.

If she's laying a full batch of eggs there's a lot more to come! They typically lay hundreds, if not a thousand.

Do you intend raising some babies? If so I suggest you read up on the subject. If not you can freeze the eggs within 5 days to stop them developing.

If she's only laid a handful she may be 'leaking' eggs and they are not fertile.

Do you know how old she is? If not, how big is she?

From what I was told she is 2 years old, she was kept with male axies until about 3/4 days before I purchased and brought her home. She is small I feel given her age, about 6.5 inches. As of this morning she has laid 75 eggs. I have been reading on rearing but am thinking I will offer the eggs to anyone on here who would pay for shipping. I am just not ready to take this on I think.

Good call, you can put an ad here in the 'for sale' section and see if you get any takers. Or as I said, freezing eggs is acceptable within the first week.

I would take some eggs off your hands.

What kind of axolotl is she?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
