Do you guys think his tummy looks odd? It reminds me of that thread of Godzilla - the class pet that had a LOT of rocks in the belly and made it look funny. Obviously no where near to the extent of Godzilla. I've never seen it look so weird it looks like there's something heavy in his belly but he's handfed, never off the ground. There's nothing in there he could ingest unless he has a sand-buffet when I'm not around.... But I doubt it as he's well fed, and doesn't snap at lifeless/not moving things. It's not bothering him but rather bothering me.

Hard to tell from just that pic. Looks like a well-fed plump axie to me.

Have you got pics from other angles?

He's always been a bit piggy, however the bottom is usually flat. I did just feed him, and am aware his back is curved and neck up but it just looks very heavy towards the bottom. I can't get one of him now he's resting inside a hide and don't want to disturb him. The photo I have attached is him usually - nice and flat.

Does he need to poop, maybe?

I woke up to the beast of all poops. But I still can't see his belly yet. I thought I was stressing over nothing

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
