My one axie has a weird limb that goes the wrong way, and it seems like s/hes trying to kick it off at points
but its always had the limb as such, since i got the little thing from the breeder

One of my axies is the same. When she was young she was the smallest and her limbs got munched off and one of her front leg grew back backwards. Looks kinda funny when she swims but she's about 12 now and seems happy enough, just an interesting quirk! :D

As above, it may well be a badly regenerated limb. I saw one in a pet shop who had a partially severed limb which regenerated another from the wound so ended up with five legs instead of four. Axolotls dont always regenerate limbs properly.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
