Hello all and thank you for the great information. we have 5 large adult boys and girls and 5 babies. i did read a lot of info about feeding my axolotls worms, which was awsome so i went out dug up about 30 or more from my massive compost heap, let them clean a bit in water and feed them . WOW they went crazy all came rushing from their cave and wanted to eat worms all day.I only gave them a few small ones each just to test the reaction and to make sure they could stomach them. all is well and now they are all hovering around the tank waiting for more.Hope to talk to some of you more.
regards drew.NZ

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
