One of my axolotls have just layed eggs. The Mum is wild type with both wild type parents and the Dad is wild type with one wild type and 1 leucistic parent.

I have looked at loads of information regarding colours and mutations but I just cant figure it out. I feel so dim!

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect please?

Thanks a lot

Wild types can carry any of the recessive colour genes, so unless you know what the parents' siblings were you can't work out the genotype of your parent axies.

So until they hatch you really can't tell. But I'd assume you'll get a lot of wild types.

And yes, it's a complicated subject!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
