Hi, I've never tried to feed my axies prawns before because I wasn't sure what type to give them!
I got a prawn ring from Tesco this year for Christmas, and I was wondering if those are okay for axies to have? They're already cooked and possibly flavoured.
Either way I'll be giving them some kind of foodie treat this year! Let me know so if these prawns aren't okay I can get some appropriate food for them in the morning :)

Raw prawns are better, cooked prawns are a bit salty. I tried my axies with both types - they just spat them out.

If you want a treat try live freshwater river shrimp, some waxworms, or even some crickets (but you have to pull the legs off!).

Salt water organisms are not apropriate. It´s not like giving them a piece of prawn is going to kill them, but it´s definitely not ideal and since it´s not necessary i´d say just avoid it.
There are plenty of fresh-water options which are far more suitable. Maybe you could get your axies a few Neocaridina or some scuds.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
