Hello Caudata members,

I've just joined this site today and am pleased to meet you all.

I live in ontario Canada and share my home with some amazing creatures. I have 2 leucistic axolotls, which is my newest interest, and am hoping to get at least one more. I bought them as juvenils 6 months ago and think they are females. I also have 6 ADFs which I reared from eggs, (both parents have passed now). 1 of them has genetic issues causing him to be half the size of the others, a spinal deformity visable as a large humpback and who requires twice a week aspirations by me. For his own safety he is kept separate but is still very active and lively. His tank is beside my axolotls and he enjoys watching them most of the day. I have learned almost as much as I can about ADFs and hope to do the same with regards to my axolotls now. Any and all advice or education is much appreciated.

I also have a dog, cat, silver dollar fish, cloud minnows and a praying mantis,(which I have bred).

I look forward to corresponding on here.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
