So I found lots of sperm in my tank yesterday morning and waited until last night and moved the female into a separate tank hoping she would lay but still nothing..do you think she will or it just didn't take..they are both around 14 to 16 months old and definate male and definate female..any advice would be great thank you:confused:

Just be patient. It takes at least 2 days from fertilisation to egg laying, and if your female doesn't have eggs to fertilise it won't happen at all.

Give it until the weekend, if nothing happens remove the spermatophores and wait for the next round. You have to remember that males are optimists, and will produce spermatophores at random intervals and in response to certain triggers - even if they are on their own or in a tank full of males.

I've seem spermatophores in my tank and not had eggs, and I've had eggs without seeing spermatophores.

Yea trying to be patient :) here's some pictures of piglet I took this morning

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
