Hello everyone. I have a bunch of baby fire salamanders that my adult pair just gave birth to. I would like to know what is the survival ratio once they come out of the water. I ask because I just had one die for no reason and would like to keep the casualties to a minimum.
I have 28 babies that just came out of the water. The temps are about 70 (I know it's a bit high) Is 60f to low for babies? My experience is that baby newts eat better with temps in the high 6' than in the low 60's.
Please tell me your experience raising these babies after they come out of the water.

I used to keep fire salamanders when I lived in England. The survival rate should be at or near 100% after metamorphosis, provided that they're eating. I'm not familiar with that particular locality of gallaica, but that subspecies usually tolerates temperatures into the mid 70s quite well. They survive when others like terrestris would die.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
