Man I hope your right! She could just be fat, its hard to say, but hopefully she is gravid!
I will keep you posted if she lays.

Thanks man!

I wouldn't say gravid, just well fed :D

Yah, unfortunately I am kind of thinking the same thing, the shape is wrong I think. She's not fat all the way up, just around the waist.
But I guess time will tell for sure so we will see.......

Also I have experienced countless times that a sal/newt is "eggnant" (I made that word up) but the eggs end up getting resorbed because the rest of the process doesn't happen successfully.

Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't know that that could happen, I guess you learn something new everyday!

Haha, nice word, "eggnant", I will have to use that one ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
