Just out of curiosity, has anyone fed hornworms (the kind you buy at a pet shop, that have been fed on commercial diet so they are not poisonous) to axolotls?

I bought a few for my geckos but only one of them is interested in eating them, and I don't think he can go through them all before they expire.

I found one site online that said it was okay, and a couple threads of people feeding them to other salamanders here, so I think it's okay to do, but I was curious if anyone had done it.

Thanks!

You might do better to post this over in the 'food and feeding' section in the general forum rahter than here.

Oh, thanks! I didn't even realize there was a food and feeding section - clearly I need to spend more time here

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
