How big and how old is the axie? You really can't tell until it's almost fully grown at about 9-12 months.

It's about 15cm. I have no idea how old ):

I'd say based on the bump already there, a male.

My male at 6 Inches long and 6 months looked about there.

I'm not an expert on sexing axolotls but maybe if you post a picture of the top of your axolotl and the whole side. Maybe someone here can see if it has the rounder features of a female

here it is

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
