Hi there, i have two auxi's in a 25 gallon tank. When i got them they were baby's and need a smaller filter because the current was two strong. So right now i have a filter for a 20 gallon take. Filter's 125 L/ hr? My water is foggy despite my levels being ok. Do i need a bigger filter?

Your filter should turn your water volume over 4 times in an hour. So you'd need a filter that can turn over 100 gallon per hour.

You could always help your tank by adding a small sponge filter. They only require an air pump, so don't disturb the water too much and add a lot of space for the beneficial bacteria.

Still snuggly time, the filter should turn the tank over at least 3-4times an hour. A sponge filter doesnt turn around the water as other filters do, so your main filter should do most of the work. I need a bigger filter for my tank(maybe income tax!? Yay!) though mine turns the tank about 240gallons an hour, and it is a 50gallon tank.

So my amonia levels are zero, my nitrates are a little elevated do to changing of my filter at 0.3. I do have a bigger filter that filters 240 gallons per hour i think. Will to check. I think the one in there now filters only 125 gallons per hour. So recommendation is to upgrate my filter?

What are your nitrites? Nitrates arent bad. As long as they dont get to high. The foggy-ness might be due to a bacteria bloom(bacteria dying off) and should go away soon

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
