I woke this morning to the sounds of thrashing in my tank my older salamander was biting the younger one. I don't think the younger one is going to make it. At first I had them in different tanks but a family memeber of mine said to put them together. I have a couple babies and the smallest one is hiding. Is there anything I can do for the little guy ?? His arm is in pretty bad shape, and I got them in different tanks again.

Separate him from the larger one. Provide soil, at least one hide and a water dish. Keep him quiet and dark with little attention. Stress will prolong healing. You could try feeding him occasionally starting in a few days or so. They regenerate wounds fairly quickly. Hopefully it’s not too bad.

I check the little guys arm and it's pretty bad. :(

His arm is hanging on by threads... is there anything I can do for him?? I don't know if I should take it off the rest of the way or not.

I recommend keeping it the way it is. Eventually the limb will slough off. If you cut it off you may have to deal with bleeding if there is still blood supply to the limb. Leave him alone and allow him to find comfort in his surroundings.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
