I am setting up my first 75 gallon tank and have purchased a Canister filter. I set it up last night and got it running. The output creates way to much flow. I reviewed the forum threads and saw different ways to block/disperse flow but had an idea that I hadn't seen.

Has anyone tried to modify the output of a Canister filter with a pvc pipe drilled to resemble a turtle filter set up bar?

I use sponge filters and/or turtle filters on my 20 amd 30 gallon tanks. My idea is to get a pvc bar and drill holes through it every inch for a 2-3 foot long section.

Are you talking about making a spray bar? Thats pretty standard kit for an axie tank, but many filters don't come with one, especially cannisters.

If you mean something else can you post a pic?

That is exactly what I mean.

I couldn't find any pictures on here that showed a modified filter. I am sure someone else has built one. Do you know if there is any guidelines on how long of a bar to use for a larger filter?

Mine is 6", I aim it at the wall of the tank just above the water line. Hubby made it exactly as you'd expect - holes drilled into a pipe.

You should be able to get pipe connectors or converters for different sizes on the internet. PTFE tape is safe for an aquarium to help connect any pipes too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
