Anaerobic decay in sand

So for all you axie keepers out there with sand as your substrate.. What are your preferred methods of keeping away anaerobic decay? In my fish tanks I try to stir it a little when doing a gravel vac and always suck a little up when doing so. Would this just be the same in an axie tank?

I would assume it would be about the same. I have sand in my tanks (except my lotl tank- planning to when he gets older) but it is a very thin layer to avoid anaerobic pockets. Still I like to stir it up every now and then.
 
That is exactly what I do for my tank. I use a gravel vacuum cleaner with a wider mouth. You will lose some sand each time, but it is minimal. Not only does it stir it up, lessening the anaerobic decay possibility, but it also help pick up any unseem debris left in the sand, which should keep your ammonia levels in better check.
 
Yep, exactly. My axolotls like to root around in their sand anyway, so as long as it's not in too thick of a layer, it's not much of an issue.

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
