Hello! My name's Carly and I've been a lifelong lover of amphibians. I have a decent amount of experience with field herping, but I've never owned one. However, I'm very interested in changing this!
My partner and I are both very interested in getting ourselves an amphibious friend. I've never owned herps before, but she has experience with snakes and lizards. After reading a bit, we've been smitten by 'lotls... but we'll see where things go with that. :p
I was redirected to this site by a blog and from what I can see, it looks wonderfully informative and friendly. Hello all!

Hello and welcome! This is great place to learn about lotls, or other amphibians :> But I think a lot of us are smitten with lotls too.

Thank you, Kaini! Herps are amazing animals, and I'm super excited to be part of this community.

Hello fellow herper! Not often that a new herper comes on here, its great to have more experience and stories!

Axolotls are a great choice for a first amphibian, especially if your "smitten" with them

If you have any questions feel free to ask, or if you have any herping stories I would love to hear them :D

Welcome! -Seth

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
