So I got some lovely slate tiles to make into a hide in my Axolotl tank today, but the seller wrote on one tile in permanent marker D< Which I'm a little mad about, but he couldn't have known I was using it in a fish tank... sigh.

So question being, obviously I don't want to put the marker in my tank, but is there any way I could get it off? I have nail polish remover on hand (acetone) but would that clean off the tile afterwards and be safe to put in my tank?

Anything else I could do to get the marker off? Or should I just harass the seller for a clean tile?

Weird question to ask but I dunno what to do.

Just scrubbing with water and something textured or a papertowel usually works for me, but it can take a while sometimes

Acetone evaporates quickly and so just leave it for an hour, rinse and you're good to go

That's what I needed to know, thank you!

Just make sure you get plain old cheap nail varnish remover and not the 'gentle' or 'conditioning' stuff.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
