That's what I feel like right now, I bought a water testing kit and sponge filter online finally and they arrived yesterday. I tested the water and the parameters were high so I did a fifty percent water change and added the sponge filter. I wasn't prepared at all I have a tiger salamander and he was a piece of cake. I just hope Stevie wasn't harmed.

You're definitely moving in the right direction, don't feel too bad! How high did the parms test out as? If they're still high you might have to keep doing water changes.

Also now that you have the sponge filter in the tank will be actively cycling, so you'll have to keep watching the parameters daily and doing changes until it's fully cycled!

Just make sure you keep an eye on those levels to make sure they don't go sky high again. Water changes will definitely be needed to make sure you keep the parameters stable.

You might think seriously on keeping the axi in a plastic tub or something while your tank is cycling. It takes a while, and your axi needs to be in clean water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
