Ive had other newts before but never paddletail newts. I picked up one paddletail from a guy off craigslist giving the little guy away for free. I have a 5 gallon tank eith fake plants and sand. Id like some advice for letting it up better for him/her. Maybe some pictures of setups I could go by?

Paddletails aren't my strong point, but I would say he will need more than five gallons. Some Pachtriton can get very large when fully grown and are quite greedy so produce a lot of waste. Decoration wise, the best Pachytriton tanks I've seen are laid out like a stream bed with rock structures and caves. As they are stream dwellers in nature you could use an internal power filter to produce moderate currents around the rocks.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
