I have two Axolotls in my tank and I have a hard time keeping it clean. Does anyone else have this problem? As you can see the rock in the tank is govered with like a brown resedue. And when I clean it. It comes back about 2 days later. My water is fine. But I feed them every other day one worm each from my backyard. I plan on getting a new filter does anyone have any recomendations that will help keep my tank clean?

The brown stuff is broken up poop and the algae that grown on it, fuelled by high nitrate levles. If you don't clean poop up as soon as it happens it disintegrates and feeds the algae.

You don't need a new filter, you need a turkey baster or gravel siphon to suck up the poop quickly.

Honestly that alage you see is from a different tank. I bought the rock for 10 bucks from a fish store. And tried to clean the algae off and did the best I could. It didnt come off easy.

Aw, sorry about the algae. Once I got it in my goldfish tank, it never wanted to leave. I've got 2 kinds, stuff that's brown that grows on the glass, and a kinda pretty really green one that grows on the ornament. I've given up on cleaning the green stuff off and I think it competes with the brown, so the brown doesn't come in bad. My lotl tank doesn't have any, but I think that's because I boiled everything before putting it in there. Maybe, the next time you clean it out, boil the rock and scrub it with a hard bristled toothbrush or something?

You've got a gorgeous axie there. Can we see more pics? I want one like yours haha

There are some I wish I could post a good video of them I have.the white dots are sand that he gets on himself.

Wow he's great to look at. Was that color tough to find in general?

I have this same problem, the only solution is to get the poop out before it falls apart
I usually cant do this as 12 hours a day im not at home and im at work, so...
I just let it break up and do 75% water changes every week

No actually I just went to the store and I was planning on buying one so I went there and they had two and I bought both of them. This is the other.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
