Hello Everybody
My name is Mike and I live in Chestertown, Maryland. I have been involved with animals and pets for most of my life. Amphibians have been a favourite. Growing up in England I kept some and I remember before coming to the USA I had two axolotls that I gave to the curator of a small museum and he seemed to be quite interested in them. Later on I had a small collection of tree frogs. I acquired too many and was not able to give them the attention that they needed. Many years later I have three African Clawed frogs and a number of tropical fish. Aquatic is a plus for me and I think an axolotl might be the next on my list. Things are much improved regarding the upkeep of reptiles and amphibians and I hope to be getting more involved.
I enjoy reading the posts in the caudata forum and look forward to learning more.
Kind regards to all.
Mike

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
