Hello people !
My Axolotls are about 9 Months old . The Leucistic is about 8 inches while the Wild Type is about 7 :)
What do you think their genders are based on the photos shown ?
Thank you so much for your expert verdicts :)

If you're sure of their age I'd say they are both female, but they can still surprise you at a year old.

I bought them in November of 2013 .. I asked the guy at the shop how old they are and he said he wasn't sure but guessed they were 4 months old .
So I am just taking that information and guessing that they are about 9 months old .

I'll post photos of them as they were on the day I got them .
How old do you think they were then by looking at the photos ?

I'm not too sure about gender, but I am sure about the cuteness!

Btw, are the back legs meant to be slightly bigger than the front ones?

To be honest , I have no clue what legs are supposed to be bigger or what not .
My Leucistic's back legs are thicker than the front but my Wild Type's front legs are longer and thicker than the back .
Just depends really . BUT , my Wild Type's back legs have just fully regenerated . When my Axolotls were younger , the Leucistic bit the Wild Type's back legs off :L
But they lie on top of each other now .. They are great friends !

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
