This juvie has been floating for a while now. I was under the mistaken notion that it was too young to be able to do anything about it. It hatched two months ago, its eating and pooping and swims about some. Tries to right itself but can't.

Water changes every day with aged water. Eats frozen bloodworms daily.

No need to fridge. It looks like a classic case of bubbles in the digestive system, and will pass in a few days.
Add some floating plants for your axie to hide under - pondweed is great - or add a cork mat or plastic lid, and maybe a hide or tunnel.

Thanks, that's what I thought but this little guy has been like this for more than a few days though.

Fridging will only cause more stress in this case unfortunately. They are already stressed when they float, and you're better off just giving it some stuff to hide under and plenty of food. I had to hand feed bloodworms to my floater as he couldn't get down to the bottom at one point. It tends to pass as they get older though, mine had a problem from 8-12 weeks, he's been fine since (now 20 weeks).

Thanks for the info. I've been hand feeding it. I'll give it a plant or cover when I get home.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
