Hello everyone I was reading on here and saw a post where someone was talking about inbreeding now I got my axies from a guy on Craig's list and he said that they where bought as a breeding pair with the intention of doing so I didn't think to ask and im probably stuck in the unknown they look almost identical so is there a way to find out if there siblings or not

There's really no way to know without knowing where they came from. If in doubt, I wouldn't breed them. Are they even old enough to sex? I can't really tell how big they are from the picture.

If they are old enough it's probably just barely and I don't know how iv looked into it but still don't understand very well they look to be 5 to 6 inches i wouldn't have them together but that's how they came to me so I didn't want to separate them and they seem to enjoy each other's company I know you shouldn't let them breed in till the female is well into her maturity im going to get a light for the tank to help get good pictures

So for safety if I do want to breed then wait till I can sex them and get another axolotl should I stay with the same coloration or can I mix match

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
