I'm going on vacation for two months and I'm planning on leaving my axolotl with a friend who also has one of his own. My home tank is 30 gal and my axie's about 5 inches long. I was wondering if while I'm on vacation it's better to keep him in a much smaller 10 gallon tank (remember for about 2 months) or if I should try putting him in the same tank as my friend's axolotl?

It would be totally fine to put him in the 10 gallon. Just use the same filter and same filter media so hopefully the new small tank will be cycled from the get go. Make sure that your friend checks the water often to ensure that the conditions are good.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
